Women are competing
This morning, the women's competition began at the 2021 Crossfit Games with the swim event. Jonne Koski and Tia-Clair Toomey Orr won the first event. Koski was the overall champion after she maintained her lead throughout. Tall and Eramoo Connell were second and third, each. It was the first Games for women, and the women's side hoped to complete the podium.
The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Other contenders are Australian athlete Kara Saunders, who finished second in Australia and eleventh worldwide in 2020. Andrea Nisler is another rising star. She competed in the team category in 2018 and placed third in the United States, and 15th overall in 2020. In addition to these athletes, the Women's competition will also feature a newcomer to the sport - Icelandan competitor Sara Sigmundsdottir, who won the first place medal in the World Crossfit Games earlier this year.
Pegboard contest
Pegboard was an original feature at Crossfit Games 2021. The Games added it to their summer Olympic program, along with double-unders (dumbbell overhead squats) and pegboard. Toomey-Orr, who won 30 games events, holds the record of most wins in one Games event. Sager won Event 11 (for men) and was awarded his third Games win. While there were many tie-breakers, ToomeyOrr's dominance was enough to win the contest.

CrossFit Games training involves focusing on ten basic physical fitness skills: endurance, strength flexibility power speed and agility. Pegboard is a contest that tests competitor's grip strength as well as coordination. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The competition was fierce and the athletes felt a sense accomplishment after finishing the Pegboard.
Cutting system
The CrossFit Games will once again employ a cutting system for the individual competition. The cuts are not as severe as those used in past Games but they are still very different. It consists of 15 events so 30 athletes could be reduced after the seventh and eighth events. One question that remains is how CrossFit will adjust the points distribution after cuts. The scoring system used in 2019 was virtually identical to the 2021 one, so it is probable that this will continue.
This year's field consists of 236 athletes, making it the largest in the history of the CrossFit Games. The six first events lead to major cuts. The field is then reduced to 75 athletes. To determine the top ten, the top 30 athletes compete in a sprint tandem. The top 20 competitors then compete for the remaining six events. Castro's system was strongly criticised by former Games participants, who felt that cuts were too substantial.
Equipment from Reebok
Reebok announced new CrossFit Games footwear, clothing and other equipment. The new shoes are the Nano X1. They are built to accommodate multiple fitness needs. Reebok has billed this shoe as "the shoe of fitness," but it actually feels more like a traditional training shoe. The shoe's upper is made from DuPont's Kevlar material, which promotes durability and breathability. The shoes' responsiveness is enhanced thanks to the RopePro tech and the firm midsole.

CrossFit's sponsorship contract with Reebok is ending at the end of 2020. There will not be a title sponsor for the Games. Reebok has sponsored the Games for more than a decade. It is now evident that their involvement in the Games will decrease. Reebok won’t pay for the Games’ prize, but they will continue to make all athletic apparel, equipment, and gear worn by athletes. However, the company will no longer refer to itself as the "Reebok CrossFit Games" as it does now.
